As part of Responsive Classrooms, the students of 3-04 created a display for their 3rd grade Hopes and Dreams! The boys and girls learned how to use Taxgedo as part of this lesson. They used pictures of things in nature as their inspiration for our theme of “Growing Our Hopes and Dreams”.
Leave us some words of encouragement! We have some big goals to achieve this year and we can’t do it without your help.
We have all heard the buzz words “Going Green”, ” Environmentally Conscious”, “Conservation”. Sure they are great words, but what do they mean, and how can little ole me help SAVE the Planet? I am just one person; I can’t make a difference, can I? YES I can.
Here is a short list of little things that make a BIG difference:
1. Water your lawn early in the morning, or in the late evening.
2. Turn off lights and electronic devices when you are not using them.
3. Plant trees and flowers in your yard and community.
4. Lower your thermostat just a few degrees.
5. Take short showers or a bath to save water.
6. Wash clothes in cold water and hang them up to dry to use less energy.
7. Walk or ride your bike to work! If this isn’t an option for you, get an office carpool together. It will save you money and help save the planet! Win-Win!
So, now that we all know a few things we can do to “Go Green” or become “Environmentally Conscious”, I want to hear from you!
Registration is now open for “GOT TECH 2012″, the summer technology camp for students who will be entering grades 4-8 in the fall of 2012. This year’s theme is “Going Green”! Students who attend the camp will take a field trip to one of Memphis’ area nature centers. On this field trip, students will view the world through the “lens” of Going Green. The photos and videos collected on the trip will be used to complete various projects throughout the week.

* Video Production

This camp is FREE for students who attend Memphis City and Shelby County schools. Dates are June 4-8, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on the campuses of Hamilton Middle School, Hickory Ridge Middle School, Kate Bond Middle School and Riverwood Elementary School.
Here it is!!! I just want to thank the amazing students, parents, teachers, and administrators at Riverwood that allow me to grow with my students everyday. It is not everyone who can say that it is a joy to go to work everyday. I am always trying to learn new ways to reach my students and make learning exciting. My co-workers and administration supports that endeavor in every way possible. Thanks for letting me become the teacher I always wanted when I was in elementary school.
Last week we had a very special visitor come to Riverwood to talk to our 3rd graders. Jim Jaggers from News Channel 3 came to talk about the weather. To my surprise he also came to deliver a very special award. News Channel 3 sponsors the Educator of the Week and WOW! I won!!! Thank you so much to my awesome Riverwood students, teachers, and administration for nominating me. I love you all!
It was such a yucky day outside today. We couldn’t even go outside for recess. Mrs. Bynum likes for us to get our energy out in productive ways so today we did Adventure Fitness. Our adventure today took us back to colonial times. We learned about the first Thanksgiving and how it was different from the way we celebrate it today and how it was the same. This website got us up and moving and learning at the same time. We were so tired that we only made it halfway through… Guess we need to get in shape! We can’t wait until our next adventure!
